Local MP cooks up a storm in Hartlepool

ianYoung people have been joined by their local MP Ian Wright to learn how to make healthy chicken wraps at an event in Hartlepool.

Run by the campaign Make Space for Health, the event is part of a roadshow which travels around the country encouraging young people to make healthier lifestyle choices.

The shadow business minister praised the campaign for getting young people to try new and different things to eat.

“As a dad, I know it’s never too early to get kids involved with food in the kitchen, and I really applaud the Make Space for Health initiative as a way of encouraging good advice and information about diet and nutrition in a fun and interactive way,” he added.

Derek Minton, the project leader for Brinkburn Youth Centre, which held the event, said: “Promoting healthy eating and better health in general is a significant feature of our programme of events across the town. Many young people really appreciate the opportunity to get information and practical advice on healthier lifestyles through fun activities such as this.”

The roadshow is part of a wider campaign which distributes free resources for people who work with young people to use in activity sessions. These materials can be downloaded here: http://www.makespace.org.uk/activities/make-space-for-health/activity_packs
